Creighton Farms, a private club community in Aldie, Va., is a slice of serenity with its enclave of 184 luxury estates nestled in the rolling hills of the scenic Piedmont of North Virginia. Masterfully designed alongside the breathtaking beauty of a nature preserve, it’s home to a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, 34,000-square-foot American vernacular-style Clubhouse, and a commitment to environmental sensitivity.
As an affiliated community of Southworth Development, a firm world- renowned for developing high-end and “personally nourishing” communities, Creighton Farms believes in protecting what matters. Host to the annual Creighton Farms Invitational that raises millions for children’s health care charities, other big events, and historically, the Senior PGA Professional National Championship; “birdie” at Creighton Farms applies to both golf and the winged type. The residential resort and golf club boasts a course:
- Rated among the best by Golf Digest, Golf Magazine, and Travel +Leisure Golf
- That Audubon International certified as a sanctuary meeting the highest degree of environmental quality while protecting the natural habitat.
Creighton Farms’ green-cleaning program follows suit with on-site generation by the PathoSans ElectroChemically Activated (ECA) Solutions system that uses softened water, salt and electricity to produce:
PathoSans makes these at a fraction of the cost of off-the-shelf products, while reducing chemical exposures and waste.
“By making our own solutions, we reduce the use of aerosols, retail packaging, and related waste going to landfills.”
“From a green standpoint, it’s important to us to minimize our use of chemicals,” says General Manager, Rob Kohlhaas. “Also, by making our own solutions, we reduce the use of aerosols, retail packaging, and related waste going to landfills.”
Cleaning Upscale Homes, Facilities
Guy Littleton, Clubhouse and Facilities Manager, oversees mechanical systems, building maintenance, and housekeeping for indoor spaces at Creighton Farms totaling 67,000 sq. ft.
A staff of five uses PathoSans to clean The Nicklaus House, a club-owned guest house, plus sales models, two gatehouses providing 24/7 security, as well as the well-appointed tri-level Clubhouse, which features eight upscale guest suites, dining areas, billiards, golf shop, library, pool facility, locker rooms and lounges, four massage rooms, a steam room, and a state-of-the-art fitness center. They also use PathoSans to clean the club’s on-course comfort stations.
Achieving Better Than Par Performance
PathoSans’ setup and support has been excellent, from initial fine-tuning to practical application, including a few “aha” moments.
“The PathoSans representative showed us that the ‘brown’ grout in the bathroom marble tile is white after a few sprays and swipes with PathoClean and PathoCide!” says Kohlhaas.
Satisfying performance includes people-friendly and surface-friendly uses for:
- Cleaning marble floors and grout
- Cleaning white carpet
- Stain removal
- Sanitizing and disinfection
“Our staff is happy we’ve moved away from harsh cleaners,” adds Kohlhaas. “People sensitive to chemicals appreciate that PathoSans is fragrance-free, and everyone likes that cleaned areas now have a ‘fresh’ not antiseptic smell.”
“It works, and it’s simple.”
“It works and it’s simple,” says Littleton. “We clean grout, tile and stone with just two solutions. Except for a few specialty items, we have stopped using everything else.”
Acing the Cleaning
Every two weeks or more often, the staff cleans the model homes to ensure surfaces, moldings, floors, kitchens, bathrooms, and bedrooms are pristine; and to replenish amenities.
Occasionally, there are stubborn soils and spills in the showcase homes, and PathoClean is consistently effective.
“In a sales model, on the white carpet, there was a black mark that I couldn’t get out,” says Fanny Barbarena, Housekeeper. “I used the PathoClean and it came right up. In the Nicklaus House, I used PathoClean on a greasy oven instead of a caustic cleaner. The grease came right off without harming the finish. I love it!”
Both general and spot-related carpet care with PathoSans ECA is an Ace. It replaced a national brand that left residue and caused re-soiling.
“We use PathoClean for all our carpet cleaning,” notes Littleton. “We had a large coffee stain outside our men’s locker room that had soaked into the padding and kept coming back after repeated cleaning with the other product. Our housekeeper completely removed the stain after a few applications of PathoClean.”
It also removed a “permanent” stain in a carpeted hallway, and restored stairway carpet that was thought to need replacement but didn’t after cleaning with the PathoSans ECA solution.
Management and Staff: Fantastic in Foodservice
Creighton Farms’ management takes a personal and hands-on interest in maintaining a hygienic and green environment.
Littleton uses PathoClean and PathoCide to personally deep clean and sanitize Clubhouse ice machines, eliminating a strong acid descaling solution while protecting the health of guests, staff, and surrounding nature.
The ECA solutions have also helped foodservice staff support Creighton Farms’ “nourishing community” in a literal way, by keeping dining areas clean and healthful.
Sergio De La Fuenta, Assistant Food & Beverage Manager notes: “I can see a big difference in the amount of dirt and grease it picks up versus what we used before. It works great!”
Helping in surprising ways, PathoClean completely removed a big spill of mustard, ketchup, blackberries and parmesan cheese crushed into the dining room carpet. “We were amazed,” says Stephanie Swaino, Catering Sales Manager.
Protecting What Matters
Creighton Farms is a remarkable place of talent and vision, combining the vast experience and expertise of Southworth Development with a caring staff in a greener, healthier environment to protect what matters: People, planet, and, yes, those “birdies” – with a little help from PathoSans.
